Breakfast in the Classroom changes the way kids enjoy breakfast

For years, students have had the opportunity to enjoy breakfast in the school cafeteria, but certain barriers prevent many students from receiving the nutrition they need in the morning. Transportation issues, income-based programs, and pressure to get to class on time all make cafeteria-based breakfast programs difficult for some students to participate in. A new approach to providing nourishment, which has shown to help kids learn better, has been rising in popularity: breakfast in the classroom.

Breakfast in the classroom is exactly what it sounds like – breakfast served to students in their own classroom environment. This approach reduces some of the barriers to school breakfast by allowing kids to eat while basic tasks are happening at the beginning of class, which ensures there is no reduction in teaching time. PBS recently published an article on finding grants and programs to support a breakfast program.
